Sometimes, aging sneaks up on us like a quiet thief, stealing little moments until one day, we look up and ask, “Guess Who’s Next?”
As a young man, time felt endless. School days dragged on, and we all just wished we could leapfrog the drama of high school and dive right into the so-called real life. Little did we know, those slow days were precious in their own way.
As we blossomed into adulthood, life became about building families. I remember watching my kids grow, developing personalities and lives of their own. Their early years seemed to stretch into eternity as I watched over them, trying to shield them from the rough and tumble of school life. But in the blink of an eye, they were stepping into caps and gowns, ready to graduate and conquer the world without me.
Watching them forge paths as adults was mesmerizing. Yet, amidst the pride and joy, time continued its silent march.
Then came the grandkids—blessings, each one of them. With them, the cycle renewed. Yet, just as quickly as they burst into my life with their endless energy, they too grew up. Before long, the visits became less frequent as they pursued their own dreams, and my children, now parents themselves, got swept up in the whirlwind of their own lives.
And just like that, life seems to whisper by. The kids are independent, the grandkids are busy, and the quiet of age begins to creep in. That’s when it hits you: “Damn, I’m next.”
I once wrote a blog called “Time is Not Your Friend“, and nothing could be truer. But here’s the twist—“Guess Who’s Next?” Yes, life will give you a nudge, and one morning, you’ll wake up and realize it’s your turn.
So, to all the young ones out there, take this as a gentle wake-up call. Time might not wait, but it gives you moments. Live them. Love them. One day, you’ll look back and realize just how precious every minute was. And. . . . Guess Who’s Next? Take a wild guess!
